''Durial321'' began playing ''RuneScape'' in May 2005, and he enjoyed the player killing aspect of the game; in fact, he was in the player killing clan 3v0luti0n X. In June 2016, players exploring Falador in Old School Runescape experienced the chathead of ''Durial321'' laughing on the screen (similar to the Barrows brothers) while green partyhats also spawned on the ground along with a pile of bones. This was an easter egg by Jagex in reference to the Falador Massacre.

On the 6th June 2016 (the 10th anniversary of the Falador Massacre), World 666, an Old School tournament world, was opened. In addition to the regular features of the Tournament worlds, players had the option to teleport to Falador, which was entirely PvP enabled. While players are able to fight each other, an NPC version of Durial321 roamed the area aggressively attacking players with Ice Barrage and his abyssal whip. Players were able to retaliate against his NPC version, however he had 9,500 Hitpoints, making him extremely hard to bring down, and the NPC would respawn upon death. While most high-level equipment, including his own, can be obtained for free on these worlds, his iconic green partyhat cannot and is only obtained by defeating the NPC version. In addition to this, a new sound track entitled "Massacre" played while in Falador on these worlds, which was based on the song "Planet Hell" by Nightwish which is the music played on the original YouTube footage.

Meanwhile on Runescape 3, a similar event took place. Players were able to fight each other in an items-safe PvP battle inside the city of Falador. Unlike the OSRS event, this even took place in the live game, and players were able to use their existing equipment and gain combat experience from the PvP in the event. Durial321 would occasionally spawn in the Falador Party Room. In this version of the fight against Durial, Durial was significantly larger in comparison to RS players than his OSRS counterpart. In addition, the fight itself was set to be more as a boss fight, with players only being able to deal 1 hitpoint of damage at a time when he fell below 50% health. In addition, Durial would also be significantly healed whenever he killed a player who was fighting him.

There is evidence that Durial321 eventually joined the clan [[Reign of Terror]] (RoT) in February 2008. He applied to the clan as Durial321 and was accepted. The account he was using at the time was called Azn Boi 763. He lists his real name as Brian.<ref>https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/4mu3kj/til_durial321_joined_rot_under_a_new_alias_where/</ref>

History

321

Durial321 began playing RuneScape in May 2005, and he enjoyed the player killing aspect of the game; in fact, he was in the player killing clan 3v0luti0n X. One of Durial321's friends informed him of Cursed You's 99 Construction party, which was taking place in Cursed You's player-owned house in world 111. On 6 June 2006, Durial321 was expelled from the house while PvP mode was still on thus exposing a bug which in turn allowed Durial321 to attack players outside of the Wilderness and player-owned houses. Wielding an abyssal whip, Durial321 attacked and killed several players, from which he managed to loot a Green partyhat, and coins. Player Moderators encouraged players to bank their items, and members of the RuneScape development team were called in the middle of the night to help sort the issue.[1]

Several others were able to use this glitch, but Durial321 abused it the most. His rampage lasted for about an hour, starting at Rimmington, where the house party was, then proceeding to Falador and subsequently Edgeville. At Edgeville, he gave Voodoolegion the green partyhat, who never gave it back to him. Soon after, he finally encountered a Jagex Moderator, Mod Murdoch, who disconnected him and locked his account.[1] Durial321 was later permanently banned from RuneScape.[2] In a 2006 interview, he said that player killing outside of the Wilderness was exciting, although he felt bad for the players who lost their belongings.[1]

The 2006 incident later became known as the Falador Massacre. Paul Gower, a co-founder of Jagex, apologized for the inconvenience the glitch may have caused and said that improvements were being made to Jagex's testing and coding procedures so that such an incident would be less likely to occur again.[1]

Later on 29 May 2016, Jotedem, Polmerbat and Bearmaster0 began to be noticed for their footage of the Falador Massacre thanks to a YouTube user of the same glitch name.[3]

In June 2016, players exploring Falador in Old School RuneScape experienced the chathead of Durial321 laughing on the screen (similar to the Barrows brothers) while green partyhats also spawned on the ground along with a pile of bones. This was an easter egg by Jagex in reference to the Falador Massacre.

Recognition in 2016

On 6 June 2016 (the 10th anniversary of the Falador Massacre), World 666, an Old School tournament world, was opened. In addition to the regular features of the Tournament worlds, players had the option to teleport to Falador, which was entirely PvP enabled.

Unlike the OSRS event, this even took place in the live game, and players were able to use their existing equipment and gain combat experience from the PvP in the event.[4] Durial321 would occasionally spawn in the Falador Party Room. In this version of the fight against Durial, Durial was significantly larger in comparison to RS players than his OSRS counterpart.[4] In addition, the fight itself was set to be more as a boss fight, with players only being able to deal 1 hitpoint of damage at a time when he fell below 50% health. In addition, Durial would also be significantly healed whenever he killed a player who was fighting him.
