Nutshell This page in a nutshell: Administrators are users trusted to extra tools on the RuneScape Players Wiki. They are expected to use their tools fairly and not to gain advantage in a dispute.

Administrators (also known as admins or sysops) are users trusted to certain tools on the wiki, including the ability to block and unblock users, delete and undelete pages, and protect and unprotect pages from editing.

Administrators are given their right after passing a successful request at the requests for permissions page. They should use their tools responsibly and not use them to gain an advantage in a dispute.

Administrators' abilities

Administrators have the ability to:

  • Delete and undelete pages
  • Protect a page so it cannot be edited or renamed by users without certain rights
  • Block IP addresses or user accounts from editing
  • Edit the interface by changing system messages and skins
  • View and restore deleted page revisions

Becoming an administrator

To become an administrator, you must first make a request at the requests for permissions page. Although there are no official requirements to become an admin, users are expected to be active, trusted and make helpful contributions to the wiki.

Administrator expectations

If granted access with the tools, admins are expected to be careful with the tools. New administrators are encouraged to start slowly and ask others if unsure of something in a certain area of adminship.

Administrators should not use their administrator powers to settle editing disputes; for example, to lock a page on a version he or she prefers in an editing dispute that isn't vandalism. Ideally, an admin shouldn't be considered "in charge". The ideal admin is just someone who is trusted to have a few extra buttons and to use them for the benefit of the community.

Administrators who repeatedly act in a problematic manner may have their administrator tools removed by a bureaucrat.

Bureaucrat

A bureaucrat is a user with the ability to give other users bot, rollback, custodian, administrator, or bureaucrat rights. They can also remove bot, rollback, custodian, and administrator rights from an account, although they can't remove bureaucrat rights from any account but their own.
