Nutshell This page in a nutshell: Talk pages should be used for improving the wiki, not for expressing personal opinions on a subject or user. User talk pages are used to send messages to users; these messages do not have to relate to the user.

Talk pages are used to discuss changes to its associated article or page. Articles should not be used to discuss editors personal opinions on a subject. User talk pages are used to send messages to users; these messages do not have to relate to the user.

Using talk pages

Below are some ways on how to effectively use talk pages.

  • Stay on topic: Talk pages are for discussing the article, not for general conversation about the article's subject or about another subject. Remember to keep discussions focused on how to improve the article. Irrelevant discussions are subject to removal.
  • Be positive: Article talk pages should generally be used to discuss ways on how to improve an article; not to criticize the current status of an article. However, if you see a problem in an article, but are unsure how to fix it, feel free to draw attention to it.
  • Stay objective: Talk pages are not a forum for editors to argue their personal point of view about an issue; rather, they are a place to discuss how the points of view of reliable sources should be included in the article, so that the result is neutral.

User talk pages

While the purpose of article talk pages is to discuss the content of articles, the purpose of user talk pages is mainly to discuss the edits of a user. User talk pages can also be used to send other messages to the user. Keep in mind these messages do not have to relate to the user, but should still be positive.
