James Pitt and 'Simon Archer' originally ran a website where they posted guides on various elements of the game and maintained a forum. On 1 November 2010 they launched the YouTube channel RuneSharkVideos and began uploading video versions of the guides. On 15 August 2011 the first episode of the Godsword Set From Scratch was released. This series was a challenge in which they would attempt to obtain one of every godsword, starting from nothing. Much of their popularity can be attributed to the success of this series, which remains unfinished as of March, 2013.

RuneSharkVideos began livestreaming content in January 2012, using twitchtv, but soon after switched to YouTube livestreaming. This was an instant hit, with over 11,000 people tuning in to watch James attempt the Fight Kiln on the day of release. On the 29th of May 2012, RuneShark attempted the Queen Black Dragon multiple times upon release with over 12,000 people watching it live.

Along with Simon, he got invited on a tour to Jagex headquaters in Cambridge.

Rune Shark has maxed combat, and is attempting to obtain the Max Cape. His total level is 2,400 as of 28 May 2013. He currently has a series going named "Operation Sparkle Thunder" which is in reality his road to maxing.

On 29th May 2013, both James and Simon have announced that they have quit playing RuneScape as they don't find the game exciting or fun anymore.
