The Old Nite was an American RuneScape player that was ranked in the top 10 for several years in the early days of the game. He was commonly battling out for Rank 1 in the early days of RuneScape with Zezima and Lilyuffie88. It was often stated that, whilst Zezima would not have time to talk to passing players, The Old Nite would. By mid 2006, The Old Nite held a party for achieving maximum stats.

Death or Departure from the game[]

Just weeks later, it was claimed that The Old Nite had passed away in a battle with cancer. A small gathering was held in RuneScape to mourn his presumed passing. In a 2020 interview with then-retired Jagex employee Mod Mat K, Mat recalled the event and said that there had been multiple account recovery requests made for The Old Nite, with one player then messaging to say that in-game items had been bequeathed in The Old Nite's will to specific friends, who were then using shared recovery details to obtain these items; Mat added that Jagex proceeded to lock the account. It is entirely possible that The Old Nite had quit and passed these details on to friends, or was hacked and, having realised that all his wealth was gone, gave up on recovering it; either way, Jagex could do little else but to lock the account at that point and move on, to prevent any further embarrassment. His account also still exists. This is evidenced by the fact that you are still able to add The Old Nite to your friends list. This would add to the suggestion that Jagex never really knew if the player had had died and could therefore one day return.

Although players had claimed that individuals such as his wife or his sister had confirmed his death, some people still believe that he is alive due to there being activity on his account after being locked. There was also no official news post from Jagex to confirm his death at the time, although some Jagex staff have chosen to back this version of events.[1]
