Ban

This user should be banned and punished for his spam and not right edits! Vilius2001 (talk) 16:26, September 18, 2012 (UTC)

JUST LOOKED AT HIS EDITS, THIS USER IS SUPPOSED TO BE ACTUALLY BANNED! Any admins ban this selfish user, please. Vilius2001 (talk) 16:31, September 18, 2012 (UTC)

Mobbit has made several helpful contributions, including uploaded images for articles (1, 2, 3) and helping remove vandalism (1). He had also informed me of some vandalism on the wiki while I was in chat. I don't see justification to ban him. Smithing (talk | contribs) 19:51, September 18, 2012 (UTC)

RE:Featured image/ Featured article

Well, the point of the featured images description is to talk about the subject in the picture, and I see no reason not to. One of the goals of featured images is to display images that are eye-catching to the point where people will want to read the accompanying article, so giving a description of the article subject makes sense. Smithing (talk | contribs) 04:09, October 28, 2012 (UTC)

Yes, but I think it would be better to describe the image, for example: What is this? "Player Image 'ABC 'doing something " , etc.. but can also have other things obvious. Mobbit100 (talk)

I think that would be kind of boring. Just take the example of the featured image on the main page. Just saying "A full body image of Magic Twee" is not as interesting as is a description of Magic Twee. Smithing (talk | contribs) 13:45, October 28, 2012 (UTC)

RE:Sir of death

I've deleted the page, thanks. Smithing (talk | contribs) 01:06, October 29, 2012 (UTC)

RE:Proposed for deletion

I deleted "Feelin Lit (Ehhh Skiller)" but not The Suggs because there was a previous acceptable version of the article (that I have since modified). Smithing (talk | contribs) 00:09, October 30, 2012 (UTC)

RE:Hey!

Atheist723 took care of the articles you proposed for deletion. As for the last article you listed, what about it? Smithing (talk | contribs) 02:45, November 6, 2012 (UTC)

If you see, cites several accounts, but none with the name of this article, I think this is inappropriate Mobbit100 (talk)

I think mentioning multiple accounts in one article is fine. The definition of a player is someone who participates in a game. Thus, Bonesaw may have multiple accounts, but he is still just one player. Separating the article so there are multiple articles on his accounts is unnecessary, especially considering the article is only one paragraph long. Smithing (talk | contribs) 06:24, November 7, 2012 (UTC)
Yes, i agree that it's okay to mention several accounts, I'm not talking about creating several articles from various accounts of the same person. I'm saying that I think the article should have information of the main player account and still cite a little of the others accounts. In the the article "Bonesaw" there may be a player with such name "Bonesaw". And you can see that all account cited in the article "Bonesaw" Don't have that name specifically, now understand what I meant? Mobbit100 (talk) ^^
On the wiki, we try to name subjects by their most common name, in order to make the article titles the most recognisable, per the Manual of Style. This means that the player's actual name need not be used as the title at all. If his most common name isn't Bonesaw, then you should change the title. I also think that the article should include focus more info on his main, and also his other well known account (Bonesaw Pk). Smithing (talk | contribs) 13:19, November 8, 2012 (UTC)

Why would you delete Nadex's page? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 121.218.202.98 (talk contribs)

When requesting deletion

When requesting deletion, consider the following:

  • Does the article have any meaningful content?
  • Does any revision in the article's page history have any meaningful content?

If the answer is yes to any of the above, the article should not be deleted unless there is not enough info to identify the context of the article itself or the article otherwise fails RSP:CSD. Thanks, Smithing (talk | contribs) 03:43, November 9, 2012 (UTC)

This is something that I do. " Nadex is going for max and he's the best. Come check out my #SWAG in "Jake" Friends Chat. yolo", for me, yes, this looks like a vandalism,edited by the player himself, and no other relevant previous versions. Mobbit100 (talk)
My comment was just in response to a trend I was noticing where you would sometimes nominate articles which had a previous acceptable version or had meaningful content. As for the Nadex article, I'm unsure deletion would be the best option so I'd rather not delete the page without consensus. In its present state, the article really is not in horrible shape. RE:nationality of moderators

I don't see much of a problem including the nationality of moderators in a category so long as the category is not unpopulated. These categories just serve for organizational purposes. Smithing (talk | contribs) 05:09, December 2, 2012 (UTC)

RE:Spam

I actually plan on proposing some guidelines for accepting wikis in other languages soon, so hopefully this won't become as big a concern in the future. Since the Lithuanian wiki does not appear to contain any obvious vandalism, I don't consider it a significant concern. Smithing (talk | contribs) 18:35, December 2, 2012 (UTC)

Identifying vandalism

How was this edit vandalism? I usually think of vandalism as causing deliberate damage to a page (like adding complete nonsense to pages, removing tons of content from a page, or adding blatantly inaccurate statements to a page). Although this edit certainly could be vandalism, at the same time, this IP may have only been trying to add articles to the list that they felt should be featured as well. I would instead inform the user about the proper process to go through to nominate articles for featured article status. This way, if the edit was done in good faith (which I'm nearly certain it was, given their previous edits to the wiki were helpful), the IP would be more likely to come back and edit here.

Second, you should try out the template toolbar to warn users. It allows you to warn users much more quickly and link to a specific article they were vandalizing easily. To add it, insert:

/*** BEGIN TEMPLATES SCRIPT ***/

var toolbarTemplates = [];
var toolbarFillSummary = 1;
var toolbarFillHeader = 0;

// Add custom templates here

/* DO NOT EDIT THIS LINE! */
importScript('User:Smithing/templates.js');

/*** END TEMPLATES SCRIPT ***/

to your Special:MyPage/wikia.js or Special:MyPage/monobook.js page (depending on which Wikia skin you use). You can learn more about it here. You should definitely try it out, it's awesome. Smithing (talk | contribs) 16:48, December 30, 2012 (UTC)

Reverting edits

I was thinking about mentioning this to you in chat, but anyway: Our rollback guideline states that you should only use the rollback feature:

  • To revert obvious vandalism
  • To revert edits that you have made

Otherwise, you should undo the edit and explain why you undid that edit. Thanks. Smithing (talk | contribs) 15:36, January 4, 2013 (UTC)

Ah' ok, I understand. :P Green partyhat.png Mobbit100Talk

RE:Articles without relevant content

It really depends on the content of the article. If all the article says is "Example is a RuneScape player" then yea, it probably should be deleted in that state. You can propose any articles like this be deleted using proposed deletion. Smithing (talk | contribs) 13:39, January 6, 2013 (UTC)

New counter-vandalism channel

Hey, Mobbit. The RuneScape Players Wiki now has a counter-vandalism channel on Freenode's Internet Relay Chat (IRC) at #cvn-wikia-rsplayersconnect. The channel feeds information about IP edits and other suspicious edits on this wiki in real-time. As I'm sure you know, vandalism in articles can cause a psychological impact on players, and these edits mean less site views and beneficial activity on this wiki. If you would like to join the channel and help us revert vandalism and deal with vandals quicker, it would be appreciated.

Also, I recommend you join the main RuneScape Players Wiki IRC channel at #rsplayersconnect. There are only four active users in the chat, and it would be nice to get more. :) If you need help registering on Freenode, you can visit this page or contact me for help. Thanks. Smithing (talk | contribs) 02:48, January 9, 2013 (UTC)

My wiki page

First of all, sorry for posting this in the wrong message, I accidently made it in a previous one, but I reverted it.

Can you tell me why you removed half of my wiki page (Travis D)? You deleted the parts where I was talking about my friends and what friends chats I go to. If there's an issue with you believing me, you can come in the friends chats with me, or ask them yourself. Otherwise, is there some issue with the guidelines? How is mentioning I'm Jebrim's friend against the rules? I take pride in that, I follow his progress and we talk all the time in his friends chat. Us being friends is a part of my Runescape history, and I want that to be on my wiki page.

Next, you changed the last paragraph to something that doesn't even make sense - He has 'an interviewed' people such as Dragonseance[2], Wafflepwn [3], and Blocks.[4]

You also removed the parts where I said SUOMI watches my videos and is subscribed to me, I don't see why that would be removed, it's an interesting fact that I wanted to have in my youtube section. I think it's cool he's subscribed to me, if you don't find that relevant, that doesn't mean other people won't.

Smithing helped me with my article and looked it over, and changed the protection on it himself so people wouldn't mess with it. I don't know if I did something wrong or what, but it seems like you are trying to find things to edit in articles based on your own perspective and what you think should be in the article.

clearly you don't know who youre talking about discussing swat. its more constructive then the article you tried to replace the truth with. it is a fact that the fc of nightmarerh frowns upon swat and there is no way that he is known for his youtube channel or stats that he botted/leeched. go ahead though give me an automated response about how its biased and useless. Your edit to Akihisa-Kun

Hey. In the future, could you not edit a page to revert to a version of your liking after it was protected due to edit-warring? This could be seen as using your administrator powers to bypass discussion. RSP:EW suggests resolving disagreements through discussion and RSP:ADMIN states admins should not use their tools to gain an advantage in a dispute. Thanks. Smithing (talk | contribs) 05:31, June 6, 2013 (UTC)

Yep, i know. Anyway, Akihisa-Kun has not manifested yet and he not showed why the information would be relevant, you see we can reverse my edit if he wants to discuss about the case, but I believe if he had anything to say he would have said, and not just trying to insult me on Talk:Akihisa-Kun. Block length for IPs

Hey. IPs usually shouldn't be blocked for more than six months. This is because multiple people might share one IP address, and IP addresses change quickly (so in six months it's unlikely the same person will have the same IP address). Happy new year

Happy new year! Hopefully this should be my last suggestion for you (sorry if it seems like I've been hammering you with suggestions; this was not my intention). Anyway, you should look at Help:Substituting templates to see a list of templates you should substitute (using subst:). I've noticed that you haven't added subst: in front of some templates that should be substituted, most notably {{Vandalism1}} (use instead {{subst:Vandalism1}}). The warning templates, such as {{Vandalism1}}, is often sent to vandals, and if these aren't substituted, then you provide them a quick way to edit these warning templates (clicking the edit link of unsubstituted templates sends them to the edit page of the template itself). This just increases the likelihood of these vandals editing these templates themselves. Help:Substituting templates gives more info on why you should substitute these templates as well. Cheers, Smithing (talk | contribs) 05:50, January 4, 2014 (UTC)

Also, if you want, you can use Quarenon's script to help you quickly warn users (this will allow you to warn users by just making a few clicks, so it's tremendously useful).
/*** BEGIN TEMPLATES SCRIPT ***/

var toolbarTemplates = [];
var toolbarFillSummary = 1;
var toolbarFillHeader = 0;

// Add custom templates here

/* DO NOT EDIT THIS LINE! */
importScript('User:Smithing/templates.js');

/*** END TEMPLATES SCRIPT ***/
Just need to add this to Special:MyPage/wikia.js or Special:MyPage/monobook.js page to make it work (depending on which Wikia skin you use). Seasons greetings, Smithing (talk | contribs) 05:54, January 4, 2014 (UTC)
